Through mental focus, Altaïr can activate his Eagle Vision, a kind of hereditary second sight that reveals the disposition of other living beings, which he perceives as a color-coded glow:
Red — Hostile or potentially hostile towards Altaïr. Doesn't have to involve personal animus; for example, a city guard who has no beef with him but would fight to keep him from entering a building he's trying to get into would still show as red to him.
Blue — Friendly/an ally to Altaïr, or likely to be so based even if they aren't personally acquainted. If Altaïr arrived to free a group of trafficked people from slavers and met a stranger intent on doing the same, they could show as blue to him.
Gold — Assassination targets, people of special interest, crushes Altaïr wants to bang on a tower. (This is canon.) This is the color most likely to change based on context.
Gray — Neutral. Uninterested in either friendly or hostile interaction. Beings who actually are hostile or friendly but are unaffected by Eagle Vision will also show as gray to Altaïr. The visual equivalent of "results unclear; try again later."Eagle Vision does
not reveal whether someone is a 'good/bad' person; it is based solely on current intention. A member of his own tight-knit brotherhood who holds hostile intentions would appear red, while a member of an enemy faction who actively wants a truce would show as gray or blue. Color could also change in the blink of an eye if someone's intentions take a sudden, drastic change.
There is no exterior indication that Altaïr is using this ability; to the average person, he will merely seem to be extremely intuitive.
This ability can be negated by character ability, game plot or simply player preference. Please fill out the form below and post in a comment if you'd like me to assume that a particular color is typical for your character, or if you'd prefer that I never use Eagle Vision in a thread with you (or if I should always check first).
In-Character Permissions
Things that may be of interest threading with Altaïr:
Physical contact — In general, please leave room for a reaction. Altaïr is physically responsive, fast, and may make a point of avoiding casual touch.
Fighting/combat — Love it. Again, please leave room for reaction or we can talk OOCly about the shape a fight might take. I'm happy to have Altaïr lose or be outclassed when it makes sense (especially versus superpowered characters) but I don't want to undercut that in his specific area of expertise he really is That Good.
Injury — Fuck him up but ask me about really serious injuries.
Death — Talk to me first.
Mind control/mind reading/illusions — Altaïr has an innate resistance to mental manipulation. It is absolutely not impossible, especially for a powerful telepath, but he is a tougher nut to crack than the average person.
Magic — Altaïr has no special resistance to magic.
Flirting — Go for it. He is very bad at giving/receiving flirtation though.
Romance — Open to it but there is a high degree of difficulty. After losing a romantic partner to murder, Altaïr believes he will never again be able to feel strongly about someone. (He's wrong.)
Sex — Yes. He's fine going without but he's comfortable with casual sexual partners.
Medical Observations — Full-body lean muscle, developed by frequent climbing, parkour and horseback riding. Hands calloused from wielding swords and other weapons. Vertical scar crossing one side of his mouth. Left ring finger severed below the knuckle, cleanly healed for years now.Out-of-Character Permissions
Threadjacking — Network: Don't hesitate. Go for it. Logs: Check in please (unless it's clearly welcome in context.)
Backtagging — Yes. If a thread gets extremely old/will have a big impact on future events, I may want to touch base about planning an outcome or handwaving, but otherwise it's all good. Feel free to reach out to me as well if a thread is getting crusty/you want to trim some of your tagload.
Thread style — I tend to default to action brackets out of habit, but I'm genuinely fine with either that or prose. Respond to a starter with your preferred format and I will match.
Fourth walling — No to Altaïr as a video game character, yes to anything your character might know about the Crusades/the historical Assassins/relevant history in general. He may strongly dispute certain facts but that's purely an IC reaction.
CRAU — If your character knows Altaïr from a previous game and you strongly want to keep that knowledge, I'm up for talking about it, but in general I prefer to avoid this.
Warnings — I have no hard triggers/squicks.
Won't play — Romance/sex between Altaïr and anyone under 18/someone he would consider a child in their society. Anything where consent is in question (aside from mutually agreed upon sexy roleplay...this is also strongly implied canon.) Otherwise I'm up for anything.

Yes/No/Maybe So: Probably yes? Extenuating circumstances if there's an event that super changes people's behavior or something.
Color: Blue, probably. She likes him well enough and is reasonably inclined towards friendliness towards him despite her natural guardedness.
Special Notes: I am absolutely tickled as all hell that it's canonical he sees crushes he wants to bang on a tower in gold.
